Focus Question 4: What could you do to help resolve this human rights issue OR stop it from happening again?
The government of New Zealand need to understand the effect that doing something like this could have, as it seems as though they are supporting the discrimination that was happening in South Africa at the time. They need to realise that this will cause controversy and subsequently could lead to things such as the protests that happened during the tour. As individuals of New Zealand the most we can do is vote for who we want in government and who we think will make the right decisions for our country and not ones that could affect New Zealand’s reputation or relationships with other countries.
Another way this issue could be prevented in the future is for the people with differing opinions to argue in a less violent and more humane way.
In the world today there is still discrimination going on and not only is that a violation of a human right itself, but it can also cause other human right abuses such as this one. People need to open their eyes to the problem and do their part in making a change in order for our world to be a pleasant place to live in.
